Welcome to Progressive Pockets! I go by GG, that’s short for Genet Gimja. This is a show about living out our societal values with our wallets. And today is going to be a little different.
This episode is not being recorded in a studio or with a professional mic, the sound quality is going to be a little more raw and so is this conversation.
Usually you can come here every week for practical, gentle suggestions on ways that you can make one change to line up your values and your money, for example there are some episodes on finding a Black bank or a retirement investment that isn’t full of climate destroyers. There have been episodes about how to support women that need abortion care. To prepare for these episodes I will often reach back to my own professional experiences and training, I read a lot, I talk to experts, and I love to come back to you and share information that I think will be helpful.
But today, let’s just have a chat about... what now?
Whether you were surprised or not by the election results, you might be reeling this week, a friend of mine said she is looking for safe spaces to hear more about the election results and what will happen next. And I can relate to that, and you might too. In general, I have always wanted this podcast to be a place where you get useful information without feeling so inflamed by the challenges that you feel unmotivated to even try to be a part of the solution.
Normally I have my notes and my research and my recording gear, but today I’m sitting here, under a blanket, with my headphones on and I’m sort of unsure about what to say, so I want to speak from the heart.
What I know for sure is that I never want to give up. Giving up is too depressing. It’s an end point. There’s nothing to look forward to. I don’t want that. So let’s not give up.
I think we can rest when we need to and that’s what this unedited episode is today, no mic, no audio editor. But for the coming weeks, I’m already starting to think about ways we can regroup and imagine the society we want, and then to laser focus on actions that are within our control right now.
So, for now, let’s rest, and I’ll be back next week with some practical suggestions on ways we can reclaim our power.
Let’s talk again soon!
